Skin Care Basics

Proper skin care is the key to a youthful glow that lasts. Proper care requires 3 steps: Moisturizing, Cleansing and Protecting.

Step 1: Moisturize
Moisturizers reduce dryness of the skin and act as a barrier to dirt on your skin. Be careful not to over-moisturize as this can clog pores. Unless you have acne prone or oily skin, application twice a day is recommended. Moisturizing should be applied to the skin after washing. It should be used when the weather is cold or you are experiencing tightness in your skin.

Step 2: Cleanse
Cleaning the skin helps to maintain a healthy, attractive looking glow. Cleanser removes dust, perspiration, and some of the breakdown products of sebum which is an oily substance that prevents hair and skin from drying out.

Use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Use a proper makeup remover first than your choice of cleanser for your skin type. Use only a dime-sized amount, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water- Never hot.

When choosing a cleanser, keep in mind:

  • Cleansing creams are not recommended for those with oily or acne prone skin.
  • Astringents and toners are used to control T zone oiliness, not recommended for dry skin
  • Lipid free cleansers are helpful to those with eczema and older, drier skin.
  • Abrasive scrubs should be used infrequently, and cannot be tolerated on a daily basis. If used excessively they can cause damage to the surface of the skin.

Exfoliants should be used on a weekly basis to remove the excess, dead skin cells.

Step 3: Protect
The number one cause of wrinkles is sun damage, so it is very important to wear sunscreen in all stages of life. It should be used on a daily basis even on rainy, cloudy or winter days. You should have two moisturizers: One for night and one for day with a minimum of SPF 15. Don't use moisturizers with sunscreen at night, they are not meant for 24/7 wear. Wearing your SPF moisturizer under your makeup will be just as effective. Sunscreen prevents sun burns, photodamaged skin (aged look – brown spots, wrinkles) and helps prevent various forms of skin cancer. Sunscreen is the most important part of your skincare routine!

For best results:
Have a warm shower and remove makeup, use face cleaners. On a weekly basis use an exfoliant body scrub and a face scrub for best results.

After the shower apply a moisturizer all over your body, neck down. Apply a face moisturizer to face and neck.

Beautiful skin is as simple as that!
